The much anticipated presidential elections of Confederation of African Football came to an end in Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia and astonishingly.
Issa Hayatou and his cohorts were brought back to earth by the president of Madagascar football association, Mr Ahmad Ahmad and his charges in a landslide victory.Precisely 34 – 20 votes.
The Cameroonian who has reigned African football for twenty nine years (1988-2017) has been challenged only twice during his governing tenure before but won both electoral contests. Hayatou until his defeat once acted as an interim Fifa chief till the election of the current, Gianni Infantino. The septuagenarian Cameroonian is continent’s longest serving football chief and now succeeded by Ahmad who becomes the seventh president of the sixty year old football confederation.
